Areas Where Steve Can Offer Support
Establishing a Vision + Actionable Steps + Empowerment = SUCCESS!
Steve is a visionary. He thinks about the future and makes strategic suggestions and decisions to get to the desired outcomes even when they are hard. He sees the big picture of impacting a large group and working to get all on board.
He has mentored students, teachers, and administrators to exceed the expectations they have for themselves by helping them discover their strengths and maximizing them. He has inspired educators he has worked with to become teacher leaders, and principals, work at Central Office and even college professors. – Annette (3rd Grade Teacher)
Steve is an expert in collaborating with a variety of stakeholders to identify areas of strength, as well as areas of growth. He takes information from various data sources to create an actionable plan to support student growth and to provide teachers and leaders with resources to make identifiable gains. – Kim (Assistant Superintendent Forest Hills)
Climate and Culture
I believe the real mark of being a leader is knowing what to celebrate, and no one does this better than Steve. He relentlessly celebrated his community. Steve refers to those who cross his path as friends and family. He creates a sense of safety for all he serves. I witnessed him supporting troubled students, broken-hearted parents, and staff in crisis with grace.- Katherine H (former administrator, current Education Consultant)
I was truly blessed to call him my mentor. It was hard leaving the safe, fun, productive environment he created for all of us. However, I took him with me in my heart. When I encountered a difficult student situation, a challenging parent, a staff issue, or a student celebration, I would think of my mentor and friend and ask myself how Steve would approach the situation. - Katherine H (former administrator, current Education Consultant)
I have been privileged to work and learn under Steve’s leadership for the past 7 years. He is smart, kind, trusting, a good listener, and a deep-thinker. I am so grateful for the ability to develop all of my skills as a school psychologist and for being part of the caring community he helped cultivate. – Sarah H (School Psychologist)
Steve created a welcoming work environment. The way Steve always stayed centered on children was inspiring to us and will be his legacy for us to carry. – Michelle D (English Language Arts Teacher)
During the challenges I faced as a classroom teacher (parents who didn’t believe in me with their child, students that required special behavior plans, changing teammates and grade levels, uncertainty with the new curriculum, etc.), Steve taught me that you get knocked down and get back up again. He was always willing to listen to my many emotions, brainstorm ways to problem solve, provide feedback and guidance, and instill confidence that work and life are not a linear path but instead a series of challenges and changes that shape you in ways you might not have known you needed. You will always get back up stronger than before. – Amy Jo (2nd grade teacher)
Steve always cared, listened, and advocated for me as a person.
- He taught me how to advocate for my students.
- He taught me how to be a better listener.
- He taught me how to be more patient.
- He taught me how to be more empathetic.
- He taught me how to be ambitious.
- He taught me to be more confident.
- He taught me how to be a leader.
- He taught me to be a problem solver.
- He taught me how a building can be a family. – Amanda M (3rd Grade teacher)
Special Education
I needed a new school for my son desperately, where he could feel accepted, welcomed, and happy. I needed educators who cared, who could connect with him, and foster his growth and learning. I’m certain that the great caring he received under Steve’s guidance was key to his formative years there. Steve reached his mind, got beyond his unique developmental challenges, treated him with respect, taught him discipline, and reinforced kindness and respect for all. Steve’s actions were so important to my family and I’m forever thankful that the boys had such a good leader in their school. – MS (parent)
